EYE OF THE TIGER

“Eye of The Tiger” Co-Writer and Guitarist Jim Peterik to PerformWith LSU Tiger Band at Ole Miss Halftime Saturday

WHAT: The LSU Tiger Marching Band will feature guitarist/singer/songwriter Jim Peterik,

founding member of rock groups The Ides of March and Survivor, writer for .38 Special and Grammy winner in its Ole Miss halftime show this Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

Peterik will play guitar and sing the Ides of March 1970 hit song "Vehicle" which he wrote, played and sang lead on. Tiger Band has had the song in its playbook for several years.  That might be cool enough, but the house will come down when Peterik and the Tiger Band launch into Survivor's "Eye of The Tiger" the 1982 smash hit from the movie Rocky III .  Peterik co-wrote, played on, took over singing the lead when the original singer left the band and received a Grammy for the song.

This is an historic event in that it is the first time a guest artist will sing and play an instrument with the Tiger Band.  (The only other time a singer has appeared with them was when Lee Greenwood sang “I’m Proud to be an American” at halftime a few years ago.)

WHEN:  Saturday, November 20 - Halftime of the Ole Miss vs. LSU football game, 2:30 PM kickoff, CBS

WHO:  The appearance is made possible by The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame (LMHOF) in conjunction with Roy King and the LSU Tiger Marching Band.  The LSU Tiger Marching Band was inducted into the LMHOF in 2009 and there has been mutual ongoing interest in cooperative efforts. This will be the second halftime event collaboration between the LMHOF and the Tiger Band. Last year's Vanderbilt game halftime honored LMHOF members Al Johnson, Jean Knight, Robert Parker and Bill Conti (and their songs) and featured an on-the-field induction of the Tiger Band.

Peterik, from Berwyn, Illinois, will be presented with a "Honorary Member" certificate, the second non-Louisiana artist to receive such recognition.  Guitarist Steve Cropper of Blues Brothers, Otis Redding, and Booker T & the MG's fame got the first honor when he “sat in” at an LMHOF show last year.

WHY:
“Jim Peterik is friends with myself and many Louisiana artists and knows that this is where it all started,” says LMHOF Executive Director Mike Shepherd. “He has always admired the LSU Tigers and loves that his “Eye of the Tiger” has become such an iconic part of LSU culture, right down to having the “eye” on the football field.  He is truly excited to volunteer his time to come perform the song on that spot for over 92,000 LSU fans. Jim does both songs in his current Ides Of March set.”

MEDIA INFORMATION:Peterik will be available for media interviews Friday afternoon/evening after the final rehearsal by the Tiger Band. Contact Mike Shepherd to make arrangements by email This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .
